Big wheel keep on turnin’

without comments

You would probably have to be right-brain dominant to understand the thought processes that precede my blog posts. ;-)

This one in particular.

I was sorting my October photographs, and this image caught my eye and struck a fancy with me; from there I thought about wheels — then big wheels. Which of course, led to Tina Turner singing Proud Mary in my head. (Did I mention I am right-brained??)

Which gets us here: This post.

I left a good job in the city
Working for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleeping
Worrying bout the way things might have been
—Proud Mary

This sorta sums up my life as of 17 years ago when I left my “good job in the city” (to marry a widower and discover the adventures of instant motherhood). Although … I have to admit there have been some lost minutes (hours … nights!) of sleep spent “worrying bout the way things might have been”!

However, “big wheel keep on turnin’” and life goes on.

And life does go on. Even when it seems like it will not and/or is swirling completely out of control — sorta like like a menopausal woman on a tear! The entire past month has been like that! Only worse, actually! ;-) What I (try to!) do on days (months!) like that is to change lanes (as often as possible) at the :45 of every hour. I just do something else — for 15 luxurious minutes — in the midst of a “Nascar-race schedule.” Sort of like a proverbial pit stop to check the air in the tires, add some oil and gas ‘er up!

So-o, today, at the :45 break, I checked e-mail (yes, I am an addict) and clicked on the “chic mommy blog” link of my gmail. Interesting choice, to put “chic” and “mommy” in the same descriptive. ‘Cause when I was “mommy,” chic was not adjective, predicate or adverb for me. Ah, but I digress …

Anyway. Chic mommy is a “35-year old mom of two little girls, both under the age of two” and has a unique slant on her life. Reading her blog, I couldn’t help but wonder how my own mommy-years could have been improved if blog-therapy was available back then. I do know the varied tones of dial-up and the ‘ol “You’ve Got Mail” of AOL proved to be essential therapy, back in the day! ;-)

Big wheel keep on turnin’ … Mommy days are gone; replaced by The Dessert Years and seedlings from my greenhouse being planted in my ever-expanding Life Garden! Diapers, The Terrible Twos, and even puberty have been replaced by an (almost) empty nest, GMAT review books, and teaching my “baby” to drive … However, I still am not sure about reaching the point of chic! ;-) My attire (and attitude) remain more of an eclectic mix of denim and custom-made bling! But, a girl can dream! Even mature girls dancin’ with mean-o-pause! ;-)
