Motivation to Change — View from the Sky

Perspective is the fruit of personal choice and, when chosen, presents us with views from the sky: As seen through the keen eyes the hawk (like the one in the image above) … as he glides across the sky … the wind itself lifts and carries this awesome creature as it soars above stationary realities on the ground.

Perspective is always available as an option — regardless of what we feel or believe at any given moment. It is the willingness to let go — to simply pause in the moment. (Yes, the very same moment you want to engage or run away from! 8O )

Yesterday as I drove a familiar route — contemplating the realities and changes on the horizon of the coming months — I experienced the most amazing awareness as the curve of the highway took me past The Hospital. The same hospital where I planned to have more babies — but instead it was where I had surgery to remove two abdominal masses and became informed of the treatment protocol for ovarian cancer.

Suddenly, I realized Perspective was presenting me a View from the Sky. ;-)

This particular view continues to be even more awesome due to the simplicity of what I currently am embarking upon — in comparison to what I have overcome during the past six years.

Dear Reader, I overcame because I chose not to quit. Even when I wanted to quit more than I have wanted anything. Ever. (Even when I wanted to die — so the pain and suffering would stop.) I continued to act “as if” I would be healed. I continued to pursue and to choose — Perspective.

Oftentimes, I merely made micro-decisions to press through — or simply remained motionless in the place I had most recently crawled into, refusing (or literally unable) to move backward.

My actions were governed by Faith (as there was very little affirmation or assurance of an actual way through). However, by faith, I ultimately made decisions and choices to foster Change. Said actions ultimately produced Motivation to Change. Actions made in the midst of my life even as it seemed to be disintegrating into a million little pieces.

At first, it was only one tiny piece at a time. Then within months, massive chunks were falling away. The “ground” — the basis for a safe and unmovable place to stand — quaked and shifted in perpetual motion. And yet, life went on … Even when it felt like death.

Today … I am healed. And I am blessed with countless views from the sky.
