Imaginary Voyages …

Each cup of tea represents an imaginary voyage. ~Catherine Douzel
Knowing Your Limits
Guard Tower, Camp Lejeune
There are countless boundaries imposed in Life. We often see them up ahead as they seemingly taunt us to ponder: What lies beyond? What will happen if I “trespass” ? If I continue walking beyond the boundary?”
It is as though we are little children in the backseat of our parents car. Imposing invisible lines of trespass concerning our siblings and just daring them to cross into our space so we can squeal to Mom and Dad.
Sometimes we feel compelled to test the boundaries, the limits in Life. Other times we avoid even approaching the boundary because of some form of fear manifested as pure avoidance.
Yes, there are boundaries that are necessary and maintain comfort and even provide a whimsical aspect to Life.
Then there are boundaries we build exclusively for the luxury of knowing where to stop before “whatever lies beyond” … Boundaries that imprison us and prevent us from living life on purpose. What do you see? Have you built boundaries of safety or of imprisonment? Of security or of denial and (almost obsessive) control?
Sometimes there are boundaries imposed upon us and of which we believe we have no control. Limits meant to keep us out and maintain the proverbial — or literal — comfort of the one who built said boundary.
Knowing your limits and, at the same time, being willing to see beyond and to embrace whatever is next: The good, the bad and the ugly. That is living. That is being truly alive! That is living “on purpose”!
What boundaries exist in your life? Who or what put them there? Are they beneficial? Or merely keeping you for what you know is your next step? How do you like your eggs?
