Collage Journaling (and Planning!)
This is the cover of my gifted and creative friend’s journal-planner; the very kind one, who inspired me to color outside the lines …
Collage journaling — also referred to as scrapbooking, creative journaling, art journals — is my right brain method of planning and pondering the realities of the universe — my universe!
The kinetic process of collage journaling collects my popcorn-thoughts and aligns my ever-so-active cluttered mind — providing some order to my jumbled thoughts. Besides utilizing the visual, tangible and creative aspects of collage work for my journals, I have also converted my day planner to a collage-planner! ♥
It was truly a challenge for me at first … Plaster bits and pieces of notes-to-self, clip art, words, Post-it® Notes on a page — without guilt and thoughts of messiness? No way!
Way! It works! (The guilt stuff lingered for a few months … BUT when I began experiencing results, it became a mute point!) [For example, read: Success and Cupcakes]
So now, when my days seem to zip and zoom by — leaving me with just enough time to collect and pile the scraps of paper (with scribbles, notes, doodles, words and images) — I am still inspired to corral my random thoughts, to-do lists and notations.
If things get really messy at my desk (like right now!
) I have a large envelope in which I can stash everything in. Then I set aside some time, and begin the process of planning. Trading-in the boring (for me) pen-to-paper list making, for the creative delight of making art (from simply, everyday stuff like junk mail, newsprint, and other miscellany from my days)!
I actually have fun
and literally see what needs to be done as I tangibly manage the — proverbial and literal! — pieces of my life.
Very liberating! Very inspiring!
