Bridge-building

Rio Grande Gorge Bridge at Taos

Are you building a bridge or digging a the pit?

There are times when we literally have the choice to move through or stall out. Actually it is not so much that {one} moment of choice — but the countless choices made before … Our choices fortify our resolve and propel us in the direction of our dreams. Or leave us in Park.

Most of us log on to the day’s activities, incorporating both existing {to-do’s} as well as any new {to-do’s}, without a thought of what we actually have time to accomplish. We shift into gear — gas pedal pressed to the floor — without sorting through and determining priorities, separating the miscellany and trivial.

Why?

Our most commonly used “reason” …

“I don’t have time.”

Which is not true. When we make this claim, we are in the midst of invented obstacles. A maze we created in our busyness to protect us from change and the dreaded fear of failure. A maze that ultimately requires more energy than a committed decision to foster discipline in our every day {to-do’s}.

An invented obstacle to discipline is the unwillingness to accept that — just like building an actual bridge — change requires time. Strength-training one’s ability to focus and build and persevere is like weightlifting. You start with movement, and gradually add more and more weight to your routine.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. ~Jim Rohn
